Use this checklist to make sure your home is prepared for Fall 2016

As we transition into cooler months, there are a number of things you will want to do to prepare your home for Fall. This checklist is your comprehensive guide for Fall 2016!

Indoor Home Preparation

  • Examine air flow through vents
  • Change / clean air filters
  • Have your HVAC system inspected
  • Check your home’s insulation
  • Check windows and doors for drafts
  • Re-caulk windows and doors if necessary
  • Get your fireplace & chimney checked
  • Program your thermostat to adjust the temperature only when you are home
  • Test fire alarms and detectors and replace batteries as needed
  • Clean and replace filters for humidifiers
  • Switch ceiling fan direction

 

Outdoor Home Preparation

  • Remove leaves from driveway and yard
  • Apply Fall fertilizer to your lawn
  • Repair driveway cracks
  • Check exterior for peeling paint
  • Check exterior siding for damage
  • Examine outdoor caulking around windows and doors
  • Inspect your roof for damage
  • Clear the gutters
  • Clean and wrap outdoor air conditioner units
  • Clean yard equipment and prep for storage
  • Cover outdoor furniture and appliances
  • Take potted plants indoors
  • Clean and repair your deck or patio
  • Drain and store hoses
  • Have your sprinklers drained and checked
  • Stock up on firewood
  • Check for damaged trees at risk of falling
  • Winterize your pool if you have one
