3 Elements in Planning Your New Home

With all construction projects, there are usually three main factors that you must consider prior to building or remodeling your home. These include price, size and finishes. At least two of those factors should be fixed, but the third is determined by the other two factors.

  • Price: This is your budget and will reflect how much you want to spend on your project.
  • Size: This is the actual square footage of your home, including any porches, patios, garages, etc.
  • Finishes: These are the features of your new home, including flooring, light fixtures, appliances, exterior finishes, etc. The architectural style and complexity of the home should also be considered.

Your preference will determine which two factors are fixed and which is a variable. For example, if you are looking for a specific square footage and want to pay a certain price, then you will have to be flexible with the finishes. And if you want a certain level of high-end finishes throughout the home and have already determined the square footage, then you will need to be flexible on price. Make a list of your priorities and this will help you in your planning process.
